Mistletoe could Kiss Cancer Cells Goodbye

Mistletoe could Kiss Cancer Cells Goodbye

ITS BEEN ABOUT ONE MONTH SINCE, DAN'S TREATMENT OF FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE.  ONE OF HIS HOME PROGRAM SUPPLEMENTS IS MISTLETOE.

Most people associate mistletoe with Christmas and think its best use is hanging over a doorway waiting to encourage a Christmas kiss. However, research shows that the plant could have uses that far outweigh those of a festive decoration. Whilst potentially poisonous if ingested normally, mistletoe berries may have the ability to fight cancer.

Australian researchers have discovered mistletoe’s potential to kill cancer cells, meaning that it could, in the future, be used alongside chemotherapy or as an alternative cancer treatment. One particular type of mistletoe, known as Fraxini Mistletoe, was more effective than chemotherapy at killing colon cancer cells in the laboratory.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide discovered that Fraxini can not only kill cancer cells but, in certain conditions, can increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Whilst being a danger to cancer cells, mistletoe was less aggressive towards healthy cells. This is in contrast to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which both damage healthy cells as well as cancer cells, which can cause severe side effects and sometimes future health problems for cancer survivors.

Although mistletoe is currently used in Europe in alternative cancer treatment programs and to supplement conventional colon cancer treatment, it has not been used in the US or Australia due to the weak nature of previous evidence that the plant really can fight cancer. The new research supports the plant’s cancer fighting properties and offers promise for more research into this potential cure for cancer.

The study found that an extract from mistletoe helps to boost the body’s immune system and reduce the uncomfortable side effects that many patients experience from chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This means that, at the very least, it could be used to enhance survival rates for patients when used alongside conventional therapy, as well as improving the patients’ quality of life during conventional cancer treatment.

At this stage it is not known exactly how the active compounds in mistletoe kill cancer cells but this study should introduce a new line of investigation into the use of naturally occurring compounds to combat cancer.

At Alternative Cancer Treatment Mexico we fight cancer without the use of chemotherapy. We help to detoxify the body of harmful chemicals caused by Westernized living, promote cellular health and boost immunity, allowing the body to fight cancer naturally. Our Functional Oncology Program involves the active participation of a range of medical professionals, including oncologists and nutritionists, all of whom, we believe, have valuable insight and advice to contribute for every patient. At the heart of our treatment program is the patient. Each patient will be helped to make lifestyle changes that will enable them to beat their cancer, living healthier and happier, for longer.
